D1048 WESTERN LADY Locomotive Appeal

D1048 WESTERN LADY

The Western Locomotive Association became the proud owner of Class 52 D1048 Western Lady in 2023 when the locomotive was kindly gifted to the WLA. This was following a move from the Midlands Railway Centre to the Severn Valley Railway to take part in the SVR’s Autumn Diesel Gala event as a static exhibit.

The locomotive is currently going through an encouraging electrical assessment and programme of fault finding, to be followed by a mechanical assessment.

As with all 7 preserved Class 52’s, the locomotive is of historical importance and the WLA has given an undertaking to preserve this locomotive for future generations to enjoy.

In this respect, the WLA has launched an Appeal especially for D1048 where any funds will be allocated to the locomotive (recorded as ‘restricted funds’ within our accounts).

The WLA’s initial objective is to raise £15k towards the bodywork preservation of the locomotive, thus ensuring its long term survival.

Although the locomotive was repainted in 2023, the bodywork is in much need of attention if it is to be brought up to the same standard as D1013 Western Ranger and D1062 Western Courier.

The WLA is aware of various weak-spots which require cutting-out and re-welding and any donations will help us on our way to preserve this fine looking locomotive!
